I can't believe Obama didn't go visit those troops to work out

http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/s ite_072908/content/01125110.guest.html

Rush said it, and since it's on the internet, it must be true. Now why would BHO do that? What is wrong with him. I hope no one here is really excited about him, because he is terrible. Of course I will still possibly give him my vote, but wow, what an awful human being, what kind of guy goes to work out instead of visiting our hero's. Obviously you can't dispute this diary, it's right here listed on the website, so obviously it's true. And forget telling me I'm wrong on where this tripe belongs, because just because this is a progressive site, doesn't mean I shouldn't be here to constantly tell you what a fake, phony, two faced loser I think your, I mean our candidate is. I mean really, and what is wrong with you people for supporting him here, it's obvious he's as bad as my link says he is.

There's my snark for the day, good bye, and good luck.

This is a grey issue that must be explored.  There is no black and white here.

But I only see things in black and white, I have no concepts of issues being in shades of grey. What the hell am I supposed to do?!?

Did I really have to click on Limbaugh's site?

Man... reads

It sickens me the sort of interpersonal world that people like Limbaugh, or our ex-resident Rec List great inhabit- they are truly in a world created of their own delusions. Luckily, only a very few people actually take them seriously- otherwise, they're mostly talking to themselves.

This is an outrage. (2.00 / 3)

Unless Obama chooses a real patriot like Rush Limbaugh or Bill O'Reilly, he won't be receiving my vote.

Re: Obama screwed up on this one (none / 0)

I can only say that the excuses I've seen from the Obama campaign are pretty absurd on their face.

Apparently, Obama could have visited the injured troops if he had wished to do so, provided that he was not accompanied with any political staff.

Somehow, according to his campaign, that would still render it a "political" visit in their own eyes.

But why? What kind of sense does that even begin to make? If he conducts such a visit, and there is no reporting on it, and it is effectively quite private, and no political staff is accompanying Obama, how is somehow magically rendered "political"  -- except of course in the spin of a campaign desperate to find some excuse however weak?

Maybe McCain and his campaign were wrong to treat Obama's failure to visit these troops as if it were an established, certain fact that Obama simply couldn't be bothered, and was "snubbing" them. But the reality is that Obama and his campaign could not come up with an explanation that made a lick of sense for his canceling the visit.

And anybody but a fool knows that if McCain had done something similar with a likewise ludicrous excuse, the "progressive" blogosphere would be all over him, relentlessly, and without mercy.

Can any Obama supporter here admit to that fact?

Of course not.

McCain didn't visit the troops (2.00 / 1)

The problem here is that the McCain campaign was denied a visit to a military base under the same policy back in April. Of course, there was no outcry or false outrage from Brian Rogers at that time.

From CNN:

With Department of Defense rules prohibiting political campaigning on military bases, it was determined that in some cases McCain could visit the installations as a senator but could not engage in any political activity or have news media present.

McCain campaign officials said Thursday they intentionally did not campaign on military property.

"We follow the rules," said senior McCain adviser Steve Schmidt.

Because all three presidential candidates are sitting senators, DoD officials have privately noted for some weeks that the whole matter of drawing the line between Senate business and campaigning is sensitive.

A U.S. Army official told CNN there are no pending requests from any of the campaigns to visit Army bases at this time. He noted that Sen. Barack Obama recently visited Fayetteville, North Carolina, but did not go to Fort Bragg; and Sen. Hillary Clinton visited Killeen, Texas, but did not go to Fort Hood.

For his Wednesday visit to the U.S. Naval Academy -- of which he is a graduate -- McCain was allowed to make a political appearance at the academy's football stadium because it is privately owned property and is not owned or run by the U.S. military.

Earlier in the day, when McCain had breakfast with midshipmen on academy grounds, it was closed to the press and considered a private event.

The military spokesman points out that any U.S. senator could also request to visit the academy or any military installation.

But the Navy declined a McCain campaign request to speak at the Naval Aviation Museum at the naval base in Pensacola, Florida, because it is a military owned installation and is located on the base, the official said.

McCain did attend an airshow over the weekend at the Navy base in Meridian, Mississippi, because it was open to the general public. But he declined to answer political questions from reporters traveling with him.
