Betrayed, Anger, and Love for Elizabeth

Loss for words.  The person I thought should be our next President betrayed my trust.  As a blogger activist on the netroots level and a captain of Edwards' grassroots campaign group, many of us and I believed in his message wholeheartedly.

Can't be true. all this speculation by tabloid journalists.  Must be a right-wing conspiracy or a ploy to sell more issues.  Lies are real.  Edwards is a phony.  How can someone trust him now when he speaks out on poverty and fair wages?!

Now I think about the Edwards' family.  

John, don't you dare put Elizabeth next to you on the podium and have her suffer a similar fate as Spitzer's wife, recounting the humiliation and regrets.    

Hopefully Elizabeth, Cate, Emma and Jack will be brave and know we have them in our thoughts and prayers during this time.

Raw but reserved I write how I feel.  Share your thoughts below.

As for him, anything I write would be full of anger.  But I feel betrayed.

It's not our business.  If Elizabeth is still with him, it couldn't have been that bad.

What he does with his love life has no bearing on what he's said about poverty and fair wages.  Was what he said true or not?  I think it was true.  Him having an affair doesn't damage the space-time continuum and suddenly make the minimum wage a livable salary.

In short: Relax.  Jesus.

On idolization (2.00 / 2)

Over the years, one thing I've learned again & again is to remember that we humans are humans. When we place another human on a pedestal and expect them to fulfill us--as friends, spouses, employers, politicians--the hurtful disappointment follows soon enough in one form or another. Its a painful lesson: Respect people, admire the good candidate (vote for the one you respect and admire), but do not idolize. Don't confuse admiration & respect with the physical emotion of idolization.

It really isn't our business, but we can't "unknow" it either. I too hope that he won't ask Ms. Edwards to stand there with him at the upcoming press conference. (Although I really don't understand why he's having a press conference.)

I feel for Elizabeth, but I'm unhappy that she knew this in 2006 and still let John go ahead and run for president.

And I'm pissed that there are fellow Democrats, now in the anti-Obama camp, who are trying to make this about Obama and the left blogosphere somehow.

The revelation that John Edwards cheated on his wife is sad on the personal level, but really carries only one political lesson:

The netroots does a shitty job picking vetted candidates.

No more, no less. Throwing their support behind the two most flawed candidates, the netroots is batting .000.

The subtitle: this is not good news for Obama. It will be the netroot's fault when Obama's inevitable scandals hit. Superdelegates are you paying attention?

The Edwards scandal is sad.... (none / 0)

...but worse than that, is the fact that the mainstream media FAILED when it comes to informing the American people. MSM was well aware of this story and let it fester on the Internet. This scandal/rumour has been around for awhile now and from what I heard on "Hardball," this evening, "politico" admits that they dropped the ball when it comes to coverage. This bad news may or may not effect the Democratic party and so close to the convention. It should have been covered immediately IMO. This would be old news if it had of been.

John's not running for anything, he's not currently holding office.

Hopefully, Elizabeth will be spared that moment.

There is no privacy in politics.  Only Republicans are allowed to cheat and lie with impunity.

It's not fair, but it's the way it is right now.

I'm so sorry for Elizabeth, and so thankful that my original choice for president lost Iowa.  We dodged a massive bullet.

His election platform was completely different than how he voted as a senator. His ``apology'' for Iraq war was just a gambit to get the
progressives to vote for him. He waited till the winner of the Dem primaries was decided beyond doubt to endorse the winner. All he ever cared about was himself.  I know feeling betrayed is not nice, but he was always a phony. I remember Sen Feingold saying whoever you vote, dont vote for Edwards as he is a phony. Okay he did not exactly say phony, but he did say that Edwards was running on Feingold's voting record but had voted exactly the opposite when he was in the senate.
